Interclub Match vs Bullwinkle Chess Club

Tonight Bullwinkle brought a team that gave opportunities for their younger players to shine. Unfortunately they had a few late withdrawals, but still managed to field a team of six players.

Bullwinkle’s mentors Jacob Edwards and Michael D’Arcy both managed to win their games comfortably.

Jacob’s win was the first game of the night to be decided after Andrew missed a pin, which saw his position collapse.

Marcus was the other player to lose on the night. He was a bit under the weather, and it showed in a few uncharacteristic blunders that cost him dearly at key times in his game against an opponent he had previously had success against.

Sanat played an excellent game to force a win with an overwhelming position against an uncastled king.

Warren reached the endgame with a decisive advantage which he was quickly able to wrap up.

Peter Hiller was in front for most of his game, and his opponent was running out of time as well as defensive possibility towards the end of their game.

Overall, the 3-3 result was an excellent one for The Gap, but also a fair one for Bullwinkle who didn’t deserve to lose on the night after a brave performance on all boards.

Bullwinkle have won the past four meetings between the clubs, and the last time The Gap avoided defeat was in the notable 5-5 draw between the clubs on 2 June 2006.
