Report – 17 January 2014

The first chess night for 2013 saw 7 players come to play some friendly chess matches, and one tournament game.

45 Minute Tournament 2013

Results:

John Ryland 0 George Flitcroft-Smith 1

John had a gilt edged opportunity to start his year with an upset win, after George over-reached with his queen and allowed it to trapped up the board.

George swapped the queen for a rook, and John had this advantage for much of the game.

A few opportunities were missed when John had a queen and bishop against rook and knight, and after a few blunders George had his remaining knight while all the other pieces were off the board.

George only had 7 seconds left on his clock at the end, but despite this was never seriously threatened by time trouble during the game.

Report – 24 & 31 January 2014

Only social chess was played on these nights, so the standings below became final standings for the tournament.
