Before games commenced, a discussion occurred around the black cards handed out at the Olympic badminton.

Players were warned not to 'tank' tonight, but it appears the warning fell on deaf ears, at least on one board!

Martin had already resigned within five minutes of the start of his game against Greg which went:

1. e4 d6; 2. d4 Nf6; 3. Bg5 Nxe4; 4. Qe2 Nxg5 white resigns 0-1.

Greg felt the resignation was a little premature, but Martin is a staunch advocate of resigning a position once he is a 'figure' down.

Andrew and Brian played out a very complicated game which witnessed attacking play from both sides, but particularly from Brian with white.

In the endgame Brian was several pawns and had winning chances.

However, Andrew played very accurately to force a draw, with his pawn on the verge of queendom forcing Brian to embark on repetition to achieve a draw.

Tony and Jim played out an interesting game, and the only one on the night which featured castling!
