Martin Laizans 1 John Ryland 1

Martin Laizans 1 Marcus Porter 1

Six games were played tonight.

Russell had a strong position against Andrew, but overlooked a mate in one after Andrew moved his rook from e3 to e7 with the position:

(W: Kg1 Re3 Rf1 Bc2 Nf3 a3 c3 f2 g2 h2; B: Kh2 Rf3, Rg8, Bg4, Nd7, a7 b7 c6 d5 h5). Black moved Nc5 and fell to Rh7#.

In the second game Russell fell into a position where his pieces were tied up, and to protect a rook he overlooked a knight fork check which won a queen.

Martin won the first game against John, but overlooked his queen being en pris in the second, leading to instant resignation.

A similar course of events occurred against Marcus, with Martin winning the first game, then blundering a piece in the second.
