Results:

Marcus Porter 1 Martin Laizans 0 (Round 4)

Jack Badenhorst ½ Joseph Curtain ½ (Round 5)

Tony Howes 1 Jim Petrie 0 (Round 10)

John Ryland 1 James Hiller 0 (Round 13)

Brian Willcock 1 James Hiller 0 (Round 10)

Two games finished very swiftly tonight with resignations following the loss of a piece in the opening. Martin’s game was finished by 8:15pm and Jim and Tony by 8:25pm.

James had also succumbed to John by 8:35pm, allowing him to play another game with Brian which also lasted just 35 minutes. They had commenced their game without starting the click, prompting comparisons with the famous Timeless Test at Durban in 1939. However this chess match didn’t really live up to that billing.

Jack and Joe played the only game that really went the distance, with a draw agreed with a pawns allowing no way through.

Social chess continued until nearly 11pm, with Ray providing instructions to those interested to learn.
