Stuart Wilson Trophy

Results:

Andrew Robinson 1 Gary Sands 0 (Round 10)

James Hiller 0 Nathan Shaw 1 (Round 13)

Mitchell Langford 0 Tony Howes 1 on forfeit (Round 12)

Just two games played over the board tonight. Nathan had a comfortable win over James being a piece and several pawns up for much of the game.

Andrew’s game with Gary looked headed for a draw with rooks and 4 pawns each, and opposite coloured bishops. Andrew was the first below 5 minutes which led Gary to opt against a draw offer and play on. Andrew played aggressively and even missed a checkmate in two, buy finally won when Gary succumbed to time pressure trying to defend after losing a pawn, and lost on time.

After tonight’s games there are two players tied for first place. A play-off game will occur, presently scheduled for October 1.
