Cameron’s report

Ray kept a small edge throughout the game, but not enough for a winning advantage. Both players were in time trouble, and while thinking in a complex pawn ending, Ray’s flag fell.

Ray’s report

I lost my game narrowly on time. It was a Caro Kann  Classical Variation, with 4. .............Nd7.   I didn't expect this 4th move so I spent time on the clock to get safely into the late middle game.  It still remained evenly poised and he spent time on his clock.  It seemed we were both trying to avoid risk.  Going into the end game, time was evenly poised, we were both around a minute.   I think he gave me an opportunity to win a couple of moves before the end .   However the time control had marred play on both sides.  I was trying to win.   I then lost awareness of the clock at the critical time, otherwise, the most likely outcome would have been a draw.

Brian’s report

James made a number of mistakes that contributed to his defeat. .The most serious perhaps was his failure to capture a Knight on f7 with a Rook for Bishop and Knight exchange. The Knight prevented castling and played its part many moves later in my final mating attack.
