Tony had one night to complete his fixtures before heading off to the UK and showed there is a downside to attempting to play seven Allegro games in one night. He played well at the beginning of the night to score a win and a draw against Ray, but then succumbed to some simple checkmate against his other opponents – a back row mate against Greg, a mate in two when the exchange up against Andrew, and a bishop left unnecessarily hanging against Nathan. Nathan played Tony at the end of the night and capitalised fully, winning the first game also via a back row mate when earlier he had been hoping for a draw. Nathan also had good fortune in his first game with Brian, as Brian held a big advantage but was determined to maintain his winless record in this tournament ( so far, W 0 D 4 L 10).

The outcome of the tournament will now hinge on the remaining games for Andrew (vs James) and Nathan (vs Greg). Should they end up on equal points, a play-off match will ensue.

At the other end of the table, James has a chance of avoiding a last placed finish and thus achieve his best ever tournament result should he take points from his remaining games.
