Flood Cup

Round 4 results:

Brian Willcock ½ Mark Taylor ½

Ray Adams v Greg Colwell – postponed to May 22

Kieran Lyons v James Hiller – postponed to April 24

Andrew Robinson ½ Nathan Shaw ½

Russell Lyons 1 Gary Sands 0

Ray Adams and John Guest played in the social chess room, while three tournament games were fought out in the other room. Two draws were agreed to, with Andrew and Nathan’s game the final to finish on the night. Mark achieved a good draw with Brian who continued on for a half hour in a vain attempt to extract victory out of an opposite bishops endgame.

Brian’s comment on the previous sentence:

I am furiously trying to contact James over the grave libel in your description of my behaviour against Mark.

The game was indeed of opp. coloured Bishops but that is a shallow appreciation. His Bishop was useless condemned to pointlessness in his half of the board; mine had a safe path through the entrenched pawns and might have been able to attack two pawns supporting the bulk of his position – most of his pawns were on squares congenial to my Bishop.I thought I could use this and so rejected Mark’s offer of a draw. Unfortunately we both came to realize his King was too well placed and could negate any attempt on the pawns. It was not your average opp. coloured Bishops game.

I am prepared to settle out of Court.
