No big surprises tonight, other than Andrew ending his long run of draws with a win in 18 moves.
Russell was up a bishop and three pawns against five pawns, but in a moment of madness allowed his bishop to be captured by Brian’s king. A few moves later Russell offered a draw with the position [W: Ke3 a5 c6 f4 g2 h4; B: Ka7 e4 f5 h5] and a relieved Brian’s accepted. However it was pointed out (in that annoying way that some spectator can’t be retrained from demonstrating) that Brian could easily have won the game by moving g2-g4.
The last two games to finish were Nathan-Tony and Garvin-Kieran, with both players under five minutes in each of the games. Both were close, although Tony always seemed to have the edge, while the other game could have gone either way in the nervous last minutes.
