Thomas Robinson 0 Ray Adams 1

Mathew Colwell 0 Andrew Robinson 1

The closest game tonight occurred between Kieran and Nathan. Kieran held a strong positional advantage when the players went into the last five minutes with the position: W Kc2 Rh7 Na2 b2 d3 h6; B Kb6 Rf8 Bb7 e5 d5 b5. In the time flurry at the end Kieran gained a piece but that effort meant that her clock expired while Nathan still had four seconds (and was about to reclaim the piece). After the game the arbiter enlightened the players on the provisions of Article 10: Quickplay Finish from the Laws of Chess. It was agreed that Kieran could reasonably have claimed a draw in the moments before her time elapsed. Nathan “posthumously” twice offered Kieran a draw but she refused.

All players in the tournament except Brian Willcock (who was on Queensland Roar duty) were in attendance tonight. In addition there were a few new members: Bob Cartwright and juniors Andrew Pullen and Jonathan Bester, as well as the skipper Mark Taylor and Cameron De Vere.

“I told you what to do with her and you never listened to me” – Cameron giving Nathan a serve (Note: on opening technique, not gentlemanly conduct).
