Report – 27 July 2007

One Hour / Maiden Trophy

Round 4 result:

Garvin Gray ½ Tony Howes ½

Round 5 results:

Russell Lyons 1 Nathan Shaw 0

Ray Adams ½ Kieran Lyons ½

Two draws occurred tonight in the three postponed games that were played tonight. Eight players were in attendance, if you don’t include Brian who came to the club solely to pick up a copy of the scoresheet from his famous game last week which will be used as an instructional advice for juniors across the state (this is not made up, it’s true!).

In the only decisive game, Nathan thought he could counter-attack after Russell had gained the positional ascendancy, however Nathan later said that he was always just one move away from this counter-attack that never happened.

Ray offered a draw that was rejected, but then the game became draw-ish and Ray was able to accept Kieran’s offer of an armistice. The other game provided an upset of sorts with Garvin achieving a draw against his much higher rated opponent.

The outcome of tonight’s games is that the top five players all have a realistic chance of winning the tournament.
