The board one game did not proceed tonight due to difficulties in arranging a mutually acceptable time to play the game. This game will be postponed and the director of play will work out a suitable arrangement with the players.

Tony had most of the initiative against Andrew who resorted to exchange tactics to simplify and remove dangerous pieces – in two instances conceding doubled pawns as a result. It looked like Andrew could break his way back into the game with a passed pawn on e4 to restrict Tony’s king. However Tony played c4 next move at move 25 which saw Andrew consider resignation until he saw he could get his king across, albeit with the loss of a crucial pawn. Six moves later, with white having all the play and black clinging on for grim death, Tony offered a draw which was quickly and gratefully accepted by Andrew.

On board three, Ray went a pawn up after the fifth move and looked to hold onto that advantage easily. However, Marty fought back and was slowly gaining a solid position. His patience paid off when he won a piece outright after an opportunistic combination. This negatively affected Marty's game as he reverted to an overly defensive mentality, and with his clock running down he believed that only a draw was necessary to win the Handicap and so played for that. Ray seized on this and countered effectively, but then offered a draw which was perhaps a fair result in the end.

Kieran played Garvin, and like Ray managed to score an early pawn advantage as the game developed into an open battle of queens and bishops. Kieran got some of her pieces into a bit of a mess and Garvin pounced to go a piece up. Despite Kieran having three connected passed pawns on the a-b-c files, Garvin played strong positionally to make the win look easy.

Cameron won a pawn early on against Debbie but this only served to give Debbie some vicious counterplay. The end result was a dangerous queen tormenting a highly exposed king and the game ended in only 13 moves.

This game was highly positional early on, however it was blown open when Russell went on a rampage in capturing Stuart's various unprotected pieces in a destructive yet controlled performance.

Marty’s draw increases his chances of winning the Handicap Trophy, however Shane’s win keeps him in contention with one round remaining.
