Allegro tournament

Results:

Mick Waters 2 Andrew Robinson 0

Mark Taylor 1 Stuart Wilson 1

Garvin Gray 2 Tim Johnson 0

Andrew Robinson 2 Ray Adams 0

Garvin Gray 2 Mick Waters 0

Mick provided the upset of the tournament so far with an emphatic 2-0 scoreline against Andrew. His play was consistent and we deservedly won both games. Unfortunately for Mick he was sapped by these games and put in a poor showing against Garvin losing to errors in both games.

Andrew gained a small measure of equilibrium winning both games comfortably against Ray, the first game with white after Ray blundered a piece in the opening, the second thanks to a pivotal knight move that controlled the game for Andrew.

Other games went relatively to form, and it was good to see Stuart notch up a second win for the tournament.

Andrew’s losses to Mick throw the tournament wide open with Phil and Debbie as well as perhaps Harvey having realistic chances of winning the event. Mick’s pair of victories provided Andrew only his second 2-0 loss in the Allegro since 1998 (the other was inflicted by Tony Howes last year).
