Round 10 results:

Andrew Robinson 2 Peter Hiller 0

The first two rounds of the Allegro Tournament were played tonight. Most games in the first round went to form, with the closest fixture being Marty v Garvin. Marty won the first game with black then lost with white. He did likewise in the second round against Tim, thus reversing his good form with white on the opening night.

Peter and Mick scored one each, with Peter emphasising his victory in game two with a thunderous crash of the queen on the board with the checkmate delivering move. Mark gained a deserved draw off Ray, and later comfortably won the second half of his fixture with Tim. Andrew won all four of his games tonight to move to the top of the standings.

Quote of the night

“I’m glad my rating’s gone down. This’ll be better for the handicap tournaments” – Andrew says to a shocked Garvin upon hearing the news of his ratings plummet.

“In regard to the Ashes I think we can still win at the Oval and regain the Ashes as long as they get rid of Hayden. It is unbelievable how close we came to winning the last test and the ashes despite everything going against us dodgy umpiring, injuries etc. England do not know what to do when they are in a winning position. Just like me!”  - James in an email sent last Tuesday discussing the Fourth Test and the similarities between English cricket and Hiller chess.
