One Hour tournament

Round 2 result:

Tony Howes 1 John Curran 0

Round 8 results:

Brian Willcock 0 Stuart Holt 1

James Hiller 0 George Flitcroft-Smith 1

Peter Hiller 1 Ross Mills 0 (forfeit)

Round 12 result:

Peter Hiller 1 Stuart Wilson 0

All the results followed the form guide tonight.

James tried to make his game sound exciting:

“HILLER V FLITCROFT-SMITH

WILL THE ODDS ON FAVOURITE CANTER TO VICTORY

OR WILL THE 50-1 SHOT MAKE A RAILS RUN

AND CAUSE AN UPSET A LA KIWI 1983 MELBOURNE CUP.

EXPECT THE TRACK TIME TO BE FAST.”

No one seemed interested taking James on at a generous 50-1 in a two horse contest. Strange, eh?

Ross’ second forfeit in a row results in him being removed from the final tournament table. This is necessary because it is unfair to all players if some receive free points from forfeits and others have to struggle for a win (or draw or loss) over the board.

Tonight saw the Dusan Smrek back at the club for the first time since 2000. Dusan is still a strong player and (like so many others) has been honing his skills on the Internet. Dusan brought his own chess set - big (and heavy!) good quality pieces.
