Report – 23 July 2004

One Hour tournament

Round 7 results:

Debbie Jenkins 0 Brian Willcock 1

Andrew Robinson 0 Peter Hiller 1

John Curran 1 Ross Mills 0 (forfeit)

Round 9 result:

Luthien Russell 1 John Curran 0

Tonight saw two upsets of mammoth proportions. Brian threw the form book out the window by beating Debbie, while Andrew suffered probably his worst loss since 1996.

John Curran won and lost a game on the same night by losing Luthien after receiving a forfeit from the other half of the Toowoomba combination.

Notable tonight was the appearance of Nathan Smith, not seen at the club for more than five years. He is studying cello in Marseille (back in Australia on a short visit) and is still keeping up with chess via the Internet. Much taller than we remember him as an up and coming junior, and has developed a few Gallic twitches and an odd accent!
