Flood Cup

Round 4 results:

John Curran 0 Tony Howes 1 (played 26 March)

George Flitcroft-Smith 1 Harvey Quaresmini 0

Andrew Robinson ½ Debbie Jenkins ½

Stuart Holt 0 Ray Adams 1

Brian Willcock 1 James Hiller 0

Stefan Harmat 1 Peter Hiller 0

Stuart Wilson 0 Marty Chadwick 1

George remained the only player in the tournament with a perfect score after 4 rounds following his victory over Harvey who seemed to have his mind on the night ahead driving the taxi. Andrew held on for grim death against Debbie who held the initiative for much of the game. Ray beat Stuart in a game that prove the old saying correct: “the game is decided by who makes the last bad move”. At one stage Ray looked set to be annihilated, but then Stuart made a slip which allowed Ray to wrest away the initiative.

Brian’s game against James was most notable for the fact that it started with James’ king and queen on the wrong squares, a fact only picked up in the post-match analysis. No excuse was required from James for whom this sort of thing is business as usual, but Brian had to declare himself suffering from ‘advanced senility’.

In orther games Stefan overcame Peter in the endgame while Stuart crumbled after about an hour against Marty following an exchange of pieces.
