Harvey is shaping up as a prime contender after knocking off the Hour champions from 2001 and 2002 in the first 4 week. Gabby reported with disgust after the game: “Harvey didn’t beat me, he thrashed me”.

Gavin reached an interesting position in the mid-game against Mike but was too strong in the end with his material advantage being enough.

Brian won his ‘game of the year’ when James extended generosity that exceeded his own. The queen sac was reportedly unintentional.

John was never in the hunt against Tony who was a piece up early and maintained the pressure throughout.

Stuart touched a rook on move 30, but then proceeded to move his a-pawn, as much to his own astonishment as his opponent (who is used to seeing that sort of thing). Andrew then thoroughly undermined Stuart’s confidence by not enforcing the touch move rule and this psychological ploy saw a quick end to the game.

Peter had a chance when the game panned out towards a fairly even end game, but Peter overlooked a check during the exchanges which saw him several pawns down in a queen endgame.

Next week the four remaining undefeated players will clash:

Tony v Harvey and Gavin v George.

Quote of the night:

No quotes this week worthy of the name. Last week there was a surfeit in case you’re in need of one!
