Report – 20 June 2003

Clocks

The club had an informal meeting on Friday night and has decided to take advantage of an offer from Chess World to purchase 10 digital game timers (DGTs) to replace the analogue clocks currently used at the club. The DGTs will be purchased at the reduced price of $90 (RRP $139). This will enable all players at the club (including the juniors) to become familiar with DGTs which are the standard chess timing equipment used in interschool competitions, state and national championships.

Junior club tournament

A junior tournament was held with 12 entries playing in 2 groups. Games were played at the rate of 8 minutes per player. In group 1 Matthew Cannon managed to overcome Timothy Stanley in the deciding game. Jacob Gatt won group 2 assisted by some sneaky scholars mates - and was gentlemanly enough to reveal to his opponents the secret to thwarting this four move calamity. <Full Results>
