Report – 27 December 2002

The final Friday night meeting of the club saw 10 keen players show up, this possibly being a record for the Friday night between Xmas and New Year.

There was even a blast from the past as Barry Cox, a Gap player from the 1980s put in a rare appearance.

There was much amusing banter on the night, most of which is unprintable.

Next week sees the start of 2003 competition play with the commencement of the Lightning tournament. George Flitcroft-Smith will be seeking to defend his 2003 title from the likes of Gabby, Andrew and Harvey, while there is always the wildcard potential of Paul Evans, Brian Willcock or even Mark Winn who has signalled his intention to return to competitive chess in 2003.
