One Hour Tournament 2002

 

No games were played tonight. The final game of the tournament will be played next Friday (11 October 2002). If Peter Hiller achieves a win or a draw against Doug Foster he will win the Maiden Trophy for 2002. If he loses he will have to compete in a 3-way play-off to decide the Maiden winner.

Transfer

 

Andrew, Paul and the sisters stayed until midnight playing a series of transfer games. The first 2 sets of pairings were clearly one-sided. Then Paul and Peter won the first 2 games easily, before Andrew & James counter-tactic twice produced results with James avoiding defeat on Board 2, while Andrew checkmated Paul. However Paul + Peter resumed the balance in the decider to win 3-2.

It should also be noted that Brian Willcock did not attend tonight, so that he could kick up his heels - if that's possible! - and celebrate his drought breaking victory last week (against Harvey in the Allegro). His wife believes that he has forsaken chess tonight to celebrate her birthday……
