Flood Cup 2002

Results:

Andrew Robinson ½ Gabriel Boross ½ (from Round 1)

Doug Foster 1 Brian Willcock 0 (from Round 2)

Paul Evans 1 James Hiller 0 (from Round 4)

George Flitcroft-Smith 1 Harvey Quaresmini 0 (from Round 6)

Tonight’s games featured three close encounters, while Paul Evans stormed on to continue his unbeaten run in the other game. Andrew and Gabby repeated the result their final round game last year that decided the Flood Cup in Andrew’s favour. George managed to grab the initiative in a kingside assault against Harvey. Doug managed to win by achieving the opposition in a pawn endgame that Brian seemed to be dominating earlier on (perhaps queenside castling was a mistake in this instance?).

A big night out for the juniors! It needs to be mentioned though that the two senior players are inexperienced at tournament chess and despite this handicap managed to play good games by all accounts, and also.. John managed his first tournament win, so congratulations to him for this.

45 Minute tournament 2002 results in detail

Transfer

Transfer occurred from 11.30pm to 12.10am. The highlight was the last game in which George was beaten ON THE BOARD. As usual Andrew was not a member of a single losing partnership, except for George’s calamitous last game for which George had to bear full responsibility. James managed to avoid any further narcoleptic episodes, but still failed to win with Q+R+B+N advantage.
