Singer Cup 1947

A. Goldspink win chess title

 

The City of Brisbane chess championship has been won by Mr. Arthur Goldspink.

Eighteen players competed, the four finalists being Messrs. M. Kay, G.J. Pirks, L.B. McNaught, A. Goldspink.

 

Six teams competed for the Singer Cup which was won by Gambit B team by half a point from Gambit A, the holders of the cup.

Scores: Gambit B 16½ points, Gambit B 16, Brisbane B 14, Arcadians 10½, Postal Institute and Brisbane A 9 each.

 

A speed tournament with a limit of five seconds a move will be held at the Gambit Club Empire Chambers tonight.

Leading players including the State champion Mr. M Salm will compete.
